What Teachers Really Want – Elements Massage
It’s that time of year – time to give a gift that expresses the true gratitude you have for your children’s teacher. The person who spends hours a day with your child: teaching them how to read, how to write, how to add, subtract and multiply. More than that, they are teaching the skills of what it means to be a good friend, how to respect others, how to be a contributing citizen to our community, to our world. So how do we say thank you?
Here are a few ideas of what teachers REALLY want:
1. A handwritten thank you note:
Most teachers are not in their profession for the fame or for the money or for the gifts. They are in it because somewhere along their life journey, a passion stirred in their heart to help the next generation. Take time to sit down with your child and write specific way in which their teacher has helped them grow as a student and as a person.
2. Gift cards to places that sell school supplies:
Many teachers spend their own personal money on supplies for their classrooms. A gift card to a learning store or an office supply store would be a welcomed gift for the teacher to be able to purchase tools for their classroom.
3. A personal gift:
What is something you have learned about your child’s teacher this year? Do they love to garden? How about getting them a basket full of garden supplies. Do they love coffee? How about a new travel coffee mug filled with a coffee shop gift card.
4. Handmade gift
Sometimes it’s not about how much money you spend to tell a teacher thank you, but how much time you spend on wanting them to know how grateful you are for them. Allow your child to use their imagination and creativity to come up with something they think their teacher would love. Take a trip to your local craft store and have your child create the perfect gift. It will mean the world to their teacher to know your child spent time, thought and energy on wanting to make them feel special.
5. Relaxation:
Something EVERY teacher needs at the end of a school year is a day of pampering. Go in with other families in the class to put together a “Day of Relaxation.” Include in the basket fine chocolate, a bottle of their favorite beverage and top it off with a gift card to Elements Massage.* Include in the basket a handwritten note by all of the students letting the teacher know how hard they have worked and how they deserve a day to treat themselves. This thoughtful gift will let them know how thankful you are for all they have done for your child this year.
No matter what you do, make sure you say thank you. Gratitude goes a long way and gives you the opportunity to teach your child what it looks like to have a giving spirit.
